Flooding in BayelsaStakeholders in Nigeria’s South-South region are preparing for the evacuation of flood-prone communities based on disaster predictions. Led by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), these efforts include assessing communities, public awareness campaigns, and coordinating with state governments. In Cross River, NEMA has begun a flood needs assessment. In Akwa Ibom, a sensitization program has been launched, and high grounds for internally displaced persons’ camps have been identified. In Rivers and Bayelsa, NEMA has achieved 90% readiness to mitigate anticipated flooding through early warning systems and community sensitization. The proactive measures also involve desilting drains and establishing task forces to enforce waste management rules, to minimize the impact of the predicted flooding.
