The Community Environment and Development Network (CEDEN) is an NGO advocating for the restoration of extinct species in Nigeria, specifically around the country’s first oilfield in the Otuabagi Community. During a workshop on “Restoring Lost Species,” the NGO’s coordinator emphasized the need to reintroduce species like the Raffia palm, which have been lost due to decades of oil pollution. The initiative, which is a follow-up to a previous environmental education project, also aims to empower local women and reform local eco-policies to address the severe environmental degradation in the Niger Delta region. This will also proffer a solution to the damage caused by oil activities and logging.
