Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab,The Lagos State government has launched a concerted campaign urging residents and traders to adopt responsible environmental habits to ensure a clean, flood-free city. The initiative includes reinstating the monthly sanitation exercise with scheduled clean-up days, as well as cracking down on illegal dumping, particularly by cart pushers and roadside traders in areas like Idi-Araba, Orile Iganmu, and Alaba Rago. Enforcement actions include removing waste obstructing drainage systems, closing non-compliant markets, and deploying sanitation crews and equipment. Authorities also emphasized the importance of resident support—paying waste management fees and properly bagging refuse—to strengthen public–private waste collection services and enhance overall environmental sustainability in Lagos.
