Customs officers at the Seme Border in Nigeria intercepted a blue Mazda vehicle along the Badagry–Seme Expressway in the early hours of 16 November 2025, finding a lion cub and two patas monkeys hidden inside, in violation of wildlife protection laws and CITES. Two men were arrested; they claimed to have bought the animals in Kano to smuggle them into the Benin Republic. The animals were confiscated, documented, and handed over to the Greenfingers Wildlife Initiative for expert care, while Customs reaffirmed its commitment to cracking down on illegal wildlife trafficking.
