Climate InnovationThe UNFCCC article “Accelerating Climate Innovation: Financing National Systems of Innovation for Action” highlighutions, and linkages that drive technological change within countries.

In April 2025, the UNFCCC’s Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) convened in Copenhagen to discuss financing strategies for NSIs. The dialogue emphasized the importance of tailored financial mechanisms to support climate innovation, particularly in developing countries.

Key Initiatives Highlighted:

  • Pakistan: The Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator, implemented by ts efforts to strengthen national systems of innovation (NSI) to advance climate technology and sustainable development goals. NSIs are networks of actors, institCTCN, developed a community-driven rainwater harvesting blueprint to address flooding and water scarcity, enhancing adaptive capacities in the water sector.
  • Latin America and West Africa: The CATAL1.5°T Initiative, supported by the Green Climate Fund and the German government, invests in early-stage climate ventures, including projects like agricultural wastewater treatment and sustainable food ingredient production.

These examples underscore the critical role of NSIs in fostering climate resilience and the need for sustained investment and international cooperation to scale such innovations.
