Farmers in Punjab, India, are increasingly choosing to recycle crop stubble instead of burning it, which is a major source of New Delhi’s severe winter smog. Across more than 800 villages, they’re using balers to gather the residue and sending it to factories, where it’s converted into biogas, bio-fertilizer, and cardboard. While this shift is helping reduce pollution, experts warn that more incentives and public awareness are still needed to scale the effort, especially since stubble burning remains widespread across the region.
