Osun State has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with several women-led agricultural, mining, and farmer organizations to launch a waste-to-energy initiative under a new platform called WICCARE (Women in Climate Change, Circular Economy, Agriculture and Renewable Energy). The move is part of the state’s broader climate change and sustainable development agenda. The project includes building demonstration farms, agro-processing, capacity building workshops, and private sector collaboration. A notable demonstration at the launch showed cassava being converted into bioethanol, illustrating the potential of converting waste and agricultural products into renewable energy.
The state government emphasizes inclusive growth, women’s empowerment, and environmental resilience as core principles of this initiative.
