The Minister of Environment, Malam Balarabe Lawal, has reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to the Ogoni clean-up project, urging the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) and the Ogoni Trust Fund to work with transparency, accountability, and unity.
The minister, who also chairs HYPREP’s governing council, stressed that the clean-up is a national duty and an international model for environmental justice. He noted that significant progress has been made, including the completion of water projects and remediation sites, with a call to accelerate the pace of the project to ensure the timely and effective restoration of the environment and the livelihoods of the Ogoni people.
