The European Union, in partnership with Nigeria’s National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), is launching the “Copernicus” satellite-powered agriculture initiative by January 2026. This project aims to enhance food security by providing farmers with precise, space-derived data to assess soil conditions, crop suitability, and optimal planting times. By establishing demonstration farms across seven ecological zones and equipping them with precision agriculture tools, the program seeks to train rural youth in using satellite technology for farm mapping and soil analysis. Additionally, a national high-tech hub will be set up within NASRDA to serve as a center for agricultural innovation and ongoing training, helping smallholder farmers make informed decisions and improve yields.
