The UNEP press announces that on June 20, 2025, nations established the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Panel on Chemicals, Waste and Pollution (ISP-CWP) during a meeting in Punta del Este, Uruguay. This new body completes the trio of intergovernmental panels addressing the “triple planetary crisis,” joining the IPCC (climate change) and IPBES (biodiversity), with a dedicated focus on combating chemical pollution, waste mismanagement, and environmental contamination. The foundational document was adopted alongside provisional agreements on operating principles, scope, and rules of procedure, positioning the panel to launch substantive work in the coming months.
