Residents of Obogoro, a fishing community near Yenagoa in Bayelsa State, are facing severe threats from coastal erosion and flooding. Over the past decade, more than 500 homes, including a primary school, have been lost to erosion, with approximately 60% of the community’s land submerged.
A recent storm exacerbated the situation, causing further damage. Despite repeated appeals, residents report inadequate government intervention and continue to call for immediate assistance and a halt to illegal dredging activities contributing to the erosion.
